2009/10 Program Goals

1. To increase the Institute's capacity to conduct qualitative social science research that can inform public policy, address social emergencies in the Mississippi Delta and nation, and promote Blues cultural heritage throughout the Delta and Diaspora. Delta Area Research Focus Areas:

  • Civil Rights & Human Wrongs in the Delta: The Poor People's Campaign in the Wider Delta - Then & Now;
     
  • The Right to a Life-long Quality Education - From Early Childhood Learning & Care to Dismantling the Achievement Gap; &
     
  • The Right to Cultural Identity & Development - Promoting & Safeguarding Blues Cultural Heritage & Tourism Through Economic Revitalization & Sustained Development Initiatives.

2. To support MVSU Academic Departments and other University Programs with social science research design and guidance for undergraduate & graduate students, and for MVSU faculty and staff.

3. To facilitate the University's outreach through participatory action research, support for community economic development and revitalization, and the promotion of Delta cultural heritage.
