Requirements - HPER (Non-teaching)

Persons interested in pursing a Bachelor's Degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation should have high school preparations in biology, chemistry and mathematics. A basic skills foundation in sport and physical activity is critical to success.

Before a student can be admitted to a degree program, an applicaton for admissions to the College of Education must be completed. The application form can be obtained from the Student Support Office, College of Education, located in the Olympia P. Lowe Education Complex.

Once the applicant has been admitted to the College, the student can seek admission to the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation to pursue either the non-teaching option.

Persons who elect to pursue the non-teaching option must satisfy the following requirements:

  • Have at least a 2.0 GPA
  • Complete the University General Education CORE requirements
  • Pass the English Proficiency Test

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

All students majoring or minoring in Health, Physical Education and Recreation must earn a minimum grade of "C" in all required courses within the department. A minimum grade of "C" is required in Freshman Composition, EN 101 and 102.

In addition, students must pass the English Proficiency exam, or have a minimum composite ACT of 21. Students who fail to pass the English Proficiency exam may enroll in English Proficiency Writing, EN304 and earn a minimum grade of "C".

A Bachelor of Science degree in HPER requires a minimum of 124 hours with 15 of those hours being elective for the non-teaching option.
