MVSU President's Update | Governor’s Executive Order NO. 1466

MEMORANDUM

TO: Mississippi Valley State University Campus Community
FROM: MVSU President Dr. Jerryl Briggs, Sr.
DATE: April 1, 2020
RE: Governor’s Executive Order NO. 1466

This afternoon, Governor Tate Reeves signed a new executive order (Executive Order NO. 1466) establishing a statewide shelter-in-place for Mississippi in an effort to combat the spread of COVID-19.  The order begins at 5 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2020, and remains in effect through 8 a.m. Monday, April 20, 2020.  As we continue maintaining compliance with federal, state and local public health guidelines, this new order calls for us to further restrict our University operations by allowing only essential personnel on campus. No employee should come to campus unless they have been designated as essential or notified by their supervisor or Vice President to do so. While we understand that the University remains operational, we must do everything necessary to abide by and fully support the order.

Students remaining on campus will be required to relocate to McTeer Hall (male) and New Women Residence Hall (female). To ensure adequate space to effectively practice social distancing, students will be strategically located throughout the buildings. In addition, we are working to place each student in a private room with a contained bathroom, and each student will be provided with extra toiletries to support them during this time.

Thompson’s Hospitality will continue to provide meals by carry-out only, and the hours of operation will shift to weekend brunch and dinner hours for all days.  Brunch services will be provided from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. (noon), and dinner services will be offered from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Students residing on campus will receive additional details and further direction from the Office of Residence Life.

Per the executive order, we are also mandating and enforcing limited access to campus; therefore, we ask that you do not invite any outside guests to come on campus during this time.

These past few weeks have proven that Mississippi Valley State University is a resilient community. We ask that you continue to remain flexible and patient, and together, we will keep Valley in Motion.
