MVSU Annual Career Fair set for March 19

March 6, 2019

ITTA BENA, Miss.— Finding a rewarding career path is one of the major goals of college students.

Mississippi Valley State University’s Career Services is making that task a little easier with its Annual Career Fair.

On Tuesday, March 19, students at MVSU will have the opportunity to engage with the business community during the fair, hosted from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the concourse level of the R.W. Harrison Sports Complex.

The event is free and also open to alumni and community members.

Essie Bryant, MVSU’s director of career services, anticipates that more than 50 companies will have registered by the time the event takes place.

“At this time, we have 42 companies registered and we’re anticipating more,” said Bryant. “The career fair is an opportunity for employers to come to campus and meet our students face-to-face and share information and opportunities available with their company.”

In addition to the fair, students will have the chance to register for mock interviews conducted by employers.

The mock interviews give our students the chance to talk with employers to get a real-life feel for the interview process,” Bryant explained. “This event is important to our campus and our students because employers are major stakeholders in the institution's output.”

In conjunction with the Career Fair, the Career Services Center will also be partnering with JC Penney to host a College Suit-Up event from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. Sunday, March 17, at the store located in the Greenwood Shopping Mall.

During the event, current MVSU students (with a valid ID), faculty, staff and alumni will receive an additional 40-percent off career apparel.

“I am excited about this event, and it's a great opportunity to build relationships with members of the university and community,” said Jamie Underwood, general manager of Greenwood’s JC Penney.

“This event helps students dress for success without breaking the bank and prepares them for their next interview or a new job,” said Bryant.
