From Earthly Recycling to Art

April 25, 2017

“One man’s trash is another man’s treasure” is a cliche that proves to be true when it turns out to be in the form of artistic upcycling.

Jylen Grayson, a senior engineering technology major, at Mississippi Valley State University has partnered with the Sustainability Initiative to bring recycling and art to another level.

Jylen states, “With my major being in engineering technology one may wonder why I chose to create a mural in my final year at MVSU.”

Art has always been a hobby turned passion of Jylen and going into college she felt as if she let her passion slip away. It took Jylen until her junior year to realize where her heart truly was.

She made the decision to leave her mark on MVSU campus once she graduates by creating and displaying a piece of art - a mural. This art piece gave her the chance to be remembered and recognized for what she loves to do best and for what she didn’t get a chance to indulge in throughout her college years.

The mural raises awareness about Earth Day and taking care of your community and the Earth by keeping it clean. She hopes this project inspires more students to be bold and add a little color to their campus.

Jylen will be hosting a viewing of the mural on April 26, 2017 from 10:30 to 12:30 in the Student Union. Please feel free to stop by and learn more about the creation process.
