Career Services Center set to host annual career fair

October 6, 2017

Students in the Mississippi Valley State community will have the opportunity to get a jumpstart on their professional careers during the university’s “Career Me Please” employer panel discussion and career fair.

The panel discussion will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9 in the Business Education Building. The annual career fair will be held from 10-1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10 in the R. W. Harrison Complex.

“I encourage students to take time out to attend both the panel discussion and the career fair,” said Essie Bryant, director of career services center. There will be a lot of valuable information shared during these events,” she added.

During the panel discussion, employers will be given an opportunity to discuss their organization, job/internship opportunities and benefits that may be available to students. Following the presentations, students will have an opportunity to participate in a question and answer session.

The panel will feature representatives from Walgreens, United States Department of Agriculture-Forest Service, Chawla Hotels, Pharos Financial Services, Cricket Wireless and Dollar General Distribution Center.

“The panel discussion will be a great event to allow our students to get first-hand information and practical advice on various career paths,” said Bryant.

Monique Johnson, job developer for career services and event coordinator, said the career services center has worked diligently to inform students about the upcoming events.

“We go out into the classrooms and talk with students to let them know the services we offer. We also have outreach tables at different locations throughout campus. We give out information in regards to events coming up,” said Johnson.

The career fair will have representatives from nearly 30 companies including: USDA, Trustmark, Entergy, Mississippi Department of Corrections, Fort Worth Police Department, Memphis Police Department, Toyota of North Mississippi, and many more.
