Presidential Inauguration

Springing up from the fertile, cultivated soil of the Mississippi Delta, Mississippi Valley State University humbly began its inaugural academic year in 1950 with 14 students and seven faculty members.

Today, the university has gained prominence as an institution committed to academic excellence as well as providing holistic development to the thousands of students it serves. As we set aside time to pay tribute to our forefathers who laid the foundation during our 2018 Founder’s Week, it is only befitting that we also commemorate the present and embrace the future by celebrating the inauguration of our eighth president, Dr. Jerryl Briggs, Sr.

Themed “Valley in Motion”, the inauguration, slated for April 19-20, 2018, will coincide with Founder’s Week activities to illustrate the University community’s commitment to remembering the past while also paving the way for the future. With increased enrollment, retention, and graduation rates among his top priorities, Dr. Briggs is committed to securing the perpetuity of the university by keeping the institution “moving” forward on an upward trajectory. We hope to acknowledge this with a modest, first-class inauguration that will celebrate Dr. Briggs and his vision for the University.
