What inspired you to teach?
I had the opportunity to be influenced and inspired by great teachers as a student. They not only taught me subject matters but were true mentors that were a guiding light. Teaching was not my first career choice, but it was the right one, and I am glad that God led me down this path. Throughout my career, I have learned that teaching is more than a job and an opportunity to inspire, empower, and motivate students to achieve their dream while preparing them for the future. They may not remember everything you taught them, but they will never forget how you made them feel.
What do you love about teaching at MVSU?
I have been teaching at the university for nearly 18 years, and the focus has always been devoted to excellence in teaching, learning, and research. The university has an outstanding faculty, staff, and student body that is a team working together to achieve one goal.
Beyond your subject-area or discipline, what do you hope students gain from being in your classroom?
I hope students understand that their education is paving the way for their future. I want them to set high expectations for their lives, develop self-discipline and time management skills, and be committed and dedicated.
Tell us a fun or interesting fact about yourself!
I am a competitive racquetball player, and I believe reading a children's book from time to time is a great stress reliever (at least for me).
If you could have dinner with one person, alive or not, who would it be and why?
