Dr. Bryant Encourages Freshmen, Sophomores to Shine
The Rev. Dr. Jamal-Harrison Bryant visited Mississippi Valley State University Tuesday evening to give the freshmen address during the New Student Orientation Convocation.
The event was held at the H.G. Carpenter Building in the Walter Roberts Auditorium. In addition to the convocation the school also honored the second year students in the Sophomore Charge Rites of Passage Ceremony.

MVSU Joins Partnership with the California Community College System
Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU) is officially a partner with the California Community College system.
MVSU is one of two Mississippi Universities with the partnership and among 34 other participating HBCUs nationally.
The agreement, signed March 17, 2015 between the California Community Colleges system and several HBCUs afford students from community colleges in California who complete certain academic requirements guaranteed transfer to a participating HBCU.
Dr. Jerryl Briggs, MVSU’s Acting President expressed his excitement for the partnership.
MVSU Meets with Mississippi Public Service Commission
Officials from Mississippi Valley State University met with the Mississippi Public Service Commission –Central District recently to discuss their Utility Career Initiative.
The project encourages educational institutions and utility companies across the state to create partnerships to raise student awareness of the job opportunities in the utility industry within Mississippi.

Edna Horton Residence Hall Undergoing Renovations
The Edna Horton Residence Hall, which was originally built in 1968 is undergoing a $7.4 million renovation project.
According to Terrence Hurssey, director of facilities management and capital projects, the ongoing renovations began on July 10 and is scheduled to be completed on Oct. 8, 2018, which is 455 calendar days.
