ITTA BENA, Miss. —Mississippi Valley State University students now have access to two modernized laundry facilities following a ribbon cutting for the newly renovated Campus Laundry building Wednesday, Sept. 19.

The two-month renovation project included the installation of new floors, smart TVs, upgraded restrooms, a new HVAC system and an upgraded lighting and security system. The freshly painted building also features 18 washers and 20 dryers.

The renovated facility now joins a second new Campus Laundry building, located adjacent to the R.W. Harrison Complex that opened this past summer. Both facilities are free for current MVSU students.

“We’re very excited that Valley has remodeled the laundry facility,” said MVSU student Lacey Williams of Columbus, Miss.

“With the upgraded security system, I will feel much more comfortable using the facility,” she added.

“I’m just flabbergasted at the upgraded facility,” remarked MVSU senior Alexis Stewart of Brooksville, MS after the reveal. “It’s a big plus that we have access to free washers and dryers on campus.”

MVSU Director of Laundry Services Suzanne Williams said the opening of the renovated building has been highly anticipated by students.

“The students are so excited to have these renovated facilities that feature updated amenities,” Williams said. “The addition of the new laundry facility this summer allows us to accommodate more students.”

According to MVSU Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Jacqueline Gibson, the upgraded laundry facilities are part of the University’s broader vision to keep students first.

“As students are our top priority, it is the University's goal to provide the services they need at all times, including as many on-campus amenities as possible. Our newly renovated laundry facility is one such amenity, in addition to another brand-new facility, which is also located on campus.” Gibson said.

“Ultimately, it is our aim to ensure that the services our students need are readily available at their home away from home.”
