Job Description:

 

The Mathematics Instructor will provide intensive instruction to include basic arithmetic operations and problem solving that involve fundamental arithmetic concepts for students who have been admitted to the Summer Developmental Program (SDP); teachs the basic arithmetic operations and solves problems that involve fundamental arithmetic concepts needed for success at the college level; initiates, facilitates, and moderates class discussions; prepares course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments and handouts; maintains student attendance records, grades, and other required records and reports; compiles, administers, and grades examinations; maintains regularly scheduled office hours in order to advise and assist students; participates in program activities and events; manages the student’s behavior so that the student learns to be self-regulated and independent learners; prepares various assessments to tract the student’s progress; performs all other relevant duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required:

Master’s degree preferably in education or subject area; licensed in the subject area by the Department of Education, previous experience in teaching, curriculum development and/or management; previous experience working with secondary students and an at risk population; knowledge of or experience compiling and assessing statistical data; strong interpersonal skills and organizational skills with the ability to relate effectively with others at different levels including students and colleagues in other areas of education administration; competent in the content subject matter and licensed in the content area;  ability to prioritize and manage time effectively; ability to motivate and effectively interact with the at risk population; thorough knowledge of computer applications and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
