MVSU, GPSD celebrate new early college with opening ceremony

ITTA BENA, Miss.—Mississippi Valley State University joined representatives from the Greenville Public School District (GPSD) in celebrating the inaugural class of the GPSD Early College during a special opening ceremony Wednesday, Aug. 22.

Stationed on MVSU's campus, the early college offers select GPSD students the opportunity to gain college credit while earning their high school diploma.

MVSU announces Fall 2018 Week of Welcome

ITTA BENA, Miss.— Mississippi Valley State University students will enjoy an event-filled kickoff to the academic year during the 2018 Week of Welcome.

Sponsored by the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement (OSLE), the week-long event will feature a myriad of activities designed to spark school spirit, boost excitement and serve as a warm welcome to returning students, freshmen and transfers to The Valley.

Mr. & Miss MVSU attends leadership conference

ITTA BENA, Miss.— Mr. and Miss Mississippi Valley State University 2018-19 Tony Holland and Stormy Green recently attended the 17th Annual HBCU Leadership Conference in New Orleans.

The MVSU student leaders traveled to the Crescent City for the leadership conference, designed to provide helpful information, support and resources for newly elected kings and queens as they prepare for their upcoming reigns.

This presentation will allow participants to engage in effective classroom management activities that will be valuable in obtaining structure in their classrooms. It will be filled with tips and first hand applications for a successful and organized classroom environment. Participants will be given the opportunity to differentiate skills that can generate effective classroom management leading to student learning and achievement.

Children's Literature Workshop presented by Dr. Ying Wang

Children’s desire to read is a major concern for teachers in nowadays’ classroom because the benefits of the love of reading is life-long. Not only the exploration of literature helps children with cognitive and language developments, books can also serve as the window to take them into other worlds that expand their horizons. However, which books are likely to have immediate appeal for many children and which ones might require introduction or encouragement along the way?
