Summer 2021 - Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA)

HEERF II CRRSAA Emergency Relief Funds for Students

The Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA) Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF II) provides emergency funding to universities to assist students in need during the coronavirus pandemic. In 2020, this funding was known as the CARES Act Funding.

MVSU has received HEERF II funding and has established the HEERF II CRRSAA Emergency Relief Fund to distribute grants to eligible students to help cover expenses related to the cost of attendance (i.e., food, housing, child care, health care ) or for emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus.

Funds from the HEERF II CRRSAA Emergency Relief Fund are not considered financial aid and do not affect a student's current or future financial aid eligibility.

How much emergency relief funding will I receive?

The amount will cover up to six (6) credit hours taken by a student

When is the deadline to submit the survey?

The CRRSAA Summer survey must be completed prior to midnight, June 13, 2021, in order to receive funds in a timely manner.

Update: The CRRSAA Summer survey is open until July 13, 2021. Eligible students that have enrolled in courses for the Summer but have not completed the survey can still do so by the deadline.

How may I use the funds?

Students awarded a Summer Grant may use this award to pay for the following:

  • Federal component of their cost of attendance
  • Emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus, such as:
    • Tuition
    • Food
    • Housing
    • Healthcare (including mental)
    • Childcare

The amount will cover up to six (6) credit hours of summer courses taken by a student. It is important to note that students may use the funds towards any unpaid balance at MVSU.

How will I receive my funds?

Depending on your survey responses, CRRSAA (HEERF II) funds will be applied one of the following ways:

  • Applied to your student account for Summer 2021 tuition and mandatory fees for up to six (6) credit hours (courses exceeding six (6) credit hours will not be covered)
  • Applied to pay any account balance (if funds remain after covering your account balance, you will receive a refund for that amount)
  • Disbursed directly to you using Bank Mobile (if you have not selected a refund preference with Bank Mobile, contact Student Accounts at 662-254-3016 or via email at studentaccounts@mvsu.edu to receive a temporary personal code).

Please note that if you plan to enroll in classes for the Fall 2021 semester, you will be unable to register if you owe an outstanding balance.

When will I receive my funds?

We will review the population of eligible students and start making awards. For students enrolled for Summer I, funds will be disbursed on/around June 28, 2021. For students enrolled for Summer II, funds will be disbursed on/around July 23, 2021.

We ask for your patience as we work to disburse these funds as quickly as possible.

What if I owe an outstanding balance to MVSU?

You can choose to receive funds directly via Bank Mobile or have funds applied directly to your student account to help pay an outstanding balance or to cover tuition and fees for Summer 2021 enrollment.

Funds applied directly to tuition charges will first pay for outstanding tuition and fees and any remaining credit will be refunded to you.

If you receive a direct refund, you may still use your funds to help pay any balance on your account. Please note that if you plan to enroll in classes for the Fall 2021 semester, you will be unable to register for classes if you owe an outstanding balance.

Will I have to repay this award after I am no longer in school?

No, this grant does not have to be repaid. However, the amount disbursed will be based on the number of credit hours you are enrolled in, not exceeding six (6) credit hours for the entire Summer, including Summer I and Summer II. Please note you will be unable to register for classes if you owe an outstanding balance.

Who can I contact if I have additional questions?

If your question is not answered here, email crrsaa@mvsu.edu. Emails will be responded to within 48 business hours in the order in which they were received.
