MUSIC EDUCATION PROGRAM

The Music Program of the Fine Arts Department at Mississippi Valley State University provides undergraduate programs in music performance and music education, and offers cultural opportunities for the University and the community.  The music program's offerings are available to all segments of the population regardless of nationality, race, ethnic background, or religious affiliation.  The Music Program draws students from all across the United States.

The academic program in music provides opportunities for concentrated study in music leading to the Bachelor of Arts and the Bachelor of Music Education degrees.  Music majors may concentrate on instrumental, vocal, or keyboard music and music composition.  Opportunities to pursue musical study are also available to non-music majors, pre-college music students, and the general public.

OUR DEGREE

The Bachelor of Arts in Music Education prepares students to become skilled, knowledgeable, and inspiring music educators. The program combines rigorous training in music theory, performance, and pedagogy with practical classroom experience. Graduates are equipped to teach music in schools, lead ensembles, and foster a lifelong appreciation of music in diverse learning environments, while also being prepared for advanced study in music or education. ACCREDITATION

Mississippi Valley State University is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM), the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), and Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
