Job Description:

 

Provides intensive English/language arts instruction for students who have been admitted to the Summer Developmental Program (SDP); teaches the basic grammar, communication skills, and composition skills needed for success at the college level; initiate, facilitate, and moderate class discussions; prepares course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments and handouts; maintains student attendance record, grades, and other required records and reports; compiles, administers, and grades examinations; maintains regularly scheduled office hours in order to advise and assist students; participates in program activities and events; manages the student’s behavior so that the student learns to be self-regulated and independent learners; prepares various assessments to track the student’s progress; performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Desired:

Master’s degree preferably in education or subject area; licensed in the subject area by the Department of Education; previous experience in teaching, curriculum development and/or management; previous experience working with secondary students; knowledge of or experience compiling and assessing statistical data;  strong interpersonal skills and organizational skills with the ability to relate effectively with others at different levels including students and colleagues in other areas of education administration; competent in the content subject matter and licensed in the content area; ability to prioritize and manage time effectively; ability to motivate and effectively interact with the at risk population; thorough knowledge of computer applications and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
