Job Description:

 

The Director of Purchasing oversees the processing of purchase requisitions; review, approve and sign all purchase orders; adhere to State of MS Purchasing laws and procedures; responsible for the strategic management of the procurement process; financial and data analysis skills; the ability to develop supplier contacts, RFQs, FRIs, RFPs, negotiation strategies, commodity plans, supplier evaluations, and total cost analysis; ability to effectively manage people at all levels within the organization; ability to demonstrate leadership and inspire trust and confidence; ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of customers, colleagues, and executive management; ability to make presentation to large groups, must learn and stay current with industry and professional trends. 

 

Qualifications Desired:

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Public Administration or a related field and Certified Purchasing and Property Buyer (CPPB); knowledge of the University’s organizational structure, governance model, and functions, including Accounting, Budgeting, Finance, Human Resource, Auxiliary, Physical Plant, Environmental Health and Services, Information Services and Technology, and Research and Sponsored Projects Office; minimum of eight years of experience in purchasing; minimum of five years of management experience with increasing responsibility; knowledge of MS Office applications and some experience in Excel; knowledge of ERP and e-Procurement systems, such as Banner and Oracle; knowledge of internal controls concepts, both internal and external audit practices; knowledge of all current Purchasing Laws and Regulation that are mandated by the State.
