Job Description:

 

The Assistant Professor of Education will teach 9-12 credit hours with the additional responsibilities for student advisement, registration, departmental, and university-wide committee; develop course syllabi that reflect the Unit's conceptual framework, NCATE/CAEP and professional organization's standards, and the ability to integrate technology into the course; meet and teach classes regularly at designated places and provide quality instruction; keep a record of student attendance and performance and monitor such performance and provide help to students whenever needed; keep office hours (minimum of 10 hours per week) for advisement and conferences with students in classes being taught or in the department; administer a system of evaluation, which must include mid-term and final examinations; participate in three forms of annual departmental evaluations - student, peer, and chairperson evaluations; submit an Annual Faculty Performance Report (self-report) to the department chair; attend departmental meetings as well as general university faculty/staff meeting called by the President or Executive Vice-President, and Committee meetings; participate in professional growth activities including attending conferences, presenting paper, research, grantsmanship and workshops; post and maintain student conference hours as stipulated in current policy.  Any other duties assigned by the Chair.  

 

Qualifications Desired:

Terminal degree in Special Education or related discipline from an accredited institution P12 Teaching Experience; must be committed to working effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds; two or more years of related experience preferred; faculty positions require individuals with high motivation, excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; preference will be given to demonstrated strengths in teaching at K-12 Special Education level; availability to teach some evening and weekend courses; knowledge of public school administration/supervision experience; knowledge and experience concerning requirements for NCATE, SACS, MDE, and other accrediting bodies; memberhsip/participation in local, state professional associations; experience and knowledge in obtaining financial resources for the department through grants, proposals and other resources; experience in working with diverse faculty, staff, and students; experience in working on committees at the college/university level. etc.
