Sponsored Programs

Welcome to the Office of Sponosred Programs

On behalf of the Office of Sponsored Programs, welcome to our website which provides pertinent information about the opportunities and services available to the MVSU community through the university’s Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP). OSP serves as the portal for securing and managing external funds to support academic and infrastuctural needs of the university. The need of external funding in the face of budget cuts on the local, state and national levels becomes more critical with each fiscal year. The current intake by the Office of Sponsored Programs is reaching close to 25 percent of the overall University’s budget. We are working to establish and strenghten a scientific research niche. In doing so, we hope to provide our faculty with the resources necessary for instutional and professional growth and development. The Office of Sponsored Programs also includes the Office of Research Development and the Office of USDA. These areas are also actively involved in grants management and research.

The Office of Sponsored Programs secured $12,371,959 in 2008-2009. This represented a 28.33% increase over 2007-2008. It is the largest amount gained in the last ten years. OSP is available to assist in identifying and matching interests to available grant opportunities. We are seeking our share of the stimulus dollars and have been successful in some of these endeavors having secured over $700,000 so far. One of our community outreach projects involoves working with the city of Itta Bena on a Healthy Community for All Ages Initiative. We look forward to continuing this work in 2009-2010 on behalf of Mississippi Valley State University to support Dr. Donna H. Oliver in her vision for the Valley Reniassance.
