MVSU alumnus Emmitt Riley III recently earned his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in political science from the University of Mississippi.
Riley’s dissertation examined the factors that permit race to be an influence in the behavior and attitudes of White Americans. One of the reoccurring themes of his work investigates the degree which experience with African-American leadership can either enhance or alleviate White American negative views toward African-Americans, generally.
His goal is to secure a tenured position at an institution of higher learning, preferably his alma mater Mississippi Valley State University.
The recent graduate earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and English from Mississippi Valley State University in 2008, and a master’s degree in political science from Jackson State University in 2010.
