Mississippi Valley State University Celebrates Founder’s Week April 22-25

“An Esteemed Past to Cherish, A Great Destiny to Be Fulfilled”

Founder’s Week 2013 at Mississippi Valley State University will bring alumni back to the Itta Bena, Miss. campus to share memories and celebrate their alma mater’s 63rd anniversary.

The Founder’s Day Convocation will be held Thursday, April 25, 11:00 a.m., in the H.G. Carpenter Auditorium. The featured speaker is Dr. Claude Grandford Perkins, MVSU alumnus and the 12th President of Virginia Union University. Dr. Perkins’ achievements include increases in enrollment, scholarships, retention and the university’s net assets. Under his leadership, Virginia Union has added new faculty and new academic programs, including two new graduate programs, a new Fine Arts program, the Center for the Study of the Urban Child and the Center for International Studies. 

Dr. Perkins’ commitment to serving the community has led to record breaking hours of student volunteer service in the Richmond metro area. Virginia Union has been honored by President Barack Obama with placement on the Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll several times during Dr. Perkins’ presidency.

 

Dr. Perkins earned his Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Curriculum and Supervision from The Ohio University, a Master of Arts Degree in Economics Education from Purdue University and a Bachelor of Science Degree (with Distinction) in Political Science from Mississippi Valley State University.
