Under the direction of the Vice President of Student Affairs, the Dean of Students serves as the principal student advocate. The Dean of Students upholds the Student Code of Conduct by coordinating judicial affairs for the University community and seeks to restore community and educate students, creating and maintaining a safe, healthy, and supportive environment and culture that synthesizes the intellectual, physical, social, and development of our students. Manages departments as assigned that provide student learning and development opportunities; helps establish a student culture where diversity is encouraged and where students learn to respect differences, take responsibility for their actions, and exercise leadership; administers the policies and regulations of the University as they pertain to students, including internal University judicial and disciplinary procedures.
This position requires a Master’s degree, doctorate a plus with at least 5 years demonstrated progressive student affairs experience in higher education. Commitment and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student body with diverse values and priorities; ability to work independently on sensitive, confidential, often complicated issues with tact and political acumen; ability to analyze problems/issues, gather data and information, evaluate and recommend alternative solutions, or effect solutions with a tolerance for ambiguity and change, when necessary; and other duties as required.
