Job Description:

The successful applicant will teach undergraduate social studies methods courses and supervise pre-student teaching field experiences.  The applicant must have the ability to communicate clearly, utilize technology in instruction, engage in research and scholarly activities, and provide service to the department, college, university, and profession.  Active membership in professional organizations and adherence to program state and national accreditation criteria will be expected.   

Qualifications Required:

The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate (ABD considered, but must be completed within one year of hiring) in Elementary Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related field with a specialization in social studies education from a regionally accredited institution.  Three years experience teaching social studies in an elementary or a middle school classroom and knowledge of social studies standards are required.  Preferred qualification include three years experience teaching social studies in a U.S. public or private K-8 grade classroom; teaching social studies methods courses for undergraduate teacher education candidates in a university setting; experience supervising pre-student teaching field experiences; and experience in or potential for, research and scholarly activities, and professional involvement.
