Maintenance
It is recommended that after every course you download your student roster and grades to a spreadsheet that you can keep on your hard drive or some other portable drive for easy access.
With WebCT, you can “restore” the content of the course that you have backed-up, to a new course shell and be ready for your next class. Should you need to access this backed-up file in the future for purposes of retrieval of student information, etc., simply request that Office of Academic Services set up a temporary WebCT Shell for you, then you can restore the course, take care of any business you require, backup the course again and tell Office of Academic Services to delete the temporary Shell.
You can backup your course at any stage of development. After you create a backup, we recommend that you download it to your computer for safekeeping.
CREATE A BACKUP FILE
· Click on the Designer Control Panel Button
· Click on Manage Course
· Click on the Create backup link.
· In the text box, type a brief description for the backup course. This description will appear in the backup listing table
NOTE: The backup course's filename is created automatically.
Click the Create button.
Wait for WebCT to complete the backup process.
Click the Continue button
Your backup will appear in the Backup Courses Area.
You will now need to download this backup to your computer for safe keeping. If you do not download your backup, and your course gets turned off, the server administrator will have to go through the backup files to locate your course, turn it back on, and you will then download your backup.

· Click on Manage Course
· Click the Backup Course Button

The server may take awhile to upload your backup depending on how much course materials it contains. When the server is finished uploading your back up it will appear in the backups list as shown below. The time required to upload a course backup depends on the file size as well as on the speed of the Internet connection of both the server and your computer.
Delete a Backup
Course backups can take up a significant amount of disk space on the server, especially if the course contains a large number of images or multimedia elements. Therefore, MVSU limits the number of backups you can store on the WebCT server to two.
If you have reached your backup limit, you can download the backups to your computer and delete the backups on the WebCT server. You will then be free to back up your course again.
Note: Before you delete a backup, make certain you do want to delete the backup. Once a backup has been deleted from a course Office of Academic Services CANNOT retrieve the backup file. As a good measure, before you delete a course backup, you may want to download it to your computer or diskette.
· From the backup course listing, select the course backup that you want to delete.
· From the Actions area, select Delete. A confirmation message appears.
· Click OK. The backup course is deleted.
