The MVSU Devilette volleyball team pushed their season record to 3-2 as they finished competing in the 2009 Texas Season Season Opener.
In their first match of the tournament, the Devilettes defeated Dillard 3-2. After being down two sets to one, MVSU won set four 25-22 and set five 15-11 for the match victory. Lonnie Hoff had 16 kills and 17 digs while Maura Moed finished with 10 kills and four blocks.
In match number two, MVSU fell to Prairie View A&M in straight sets. The Devilettes were led by six kills each from Maura Moed and Shonese Evans while Lonnie Hoff and Kantessa Bryant each tallied four kills.
The third match of the weekend saw MVSU take on host Texas Southern. In a tough, back-and-forth contest, the Devilettes fell 3-2. Maura Moed led the team with 13 kills and five digs while Lonnie Hoff added 11 kills and 12 digs. Kantessa Bryant finished with 10 kills, two aces and nine digs.
For her efforts, Maura Moed was named to the all-tournament team with 29 kills, seven aces, 10 digs and six total blocks on the weekend.
The Devilettes will take to the court again this weekend as they travel to Montgomery, Alabama for the Lady Hornet Invitational September 11-12. The weekend will conclude with their conference opener against Alabama State on September 13.
