2011 SWAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships Set to Begin Friday
10,000m run kicks things off at 9 a.m. on Friday, April 29
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The 2011 SWAC Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships are set to begin Friday, April 29, and will continue through Sunday, May 1. The three-day event will be held at Tad Gormley Stadium in New Orleans, La.
Competition begins Friday at 9 a.m. with the 10,000m run. Field events, including javelin, are scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. Decathlon and heptathlon events also begin at 10 a.m. and the hammer throw finals are set for 2:30 p.m.
Saturday kicks off with the conclusion of the decathlon and heptathlon events at 8 a.m. The shot put and long jump begin at 12 p.m., followed by trials for the 100 and 110m hurdles, 400m dash, 100m dash and 800m run. Saturday concludes with the 200m dash finals.
Sunday's events start at 9 a.m. with the discus, triple jump and high jump. Pole vault begins at 9:30 a.m. The running event finals begin at 1 p.m. with the 400m dash and 1,500m run.
The Grambling State men and Alabama State women look to successfully defend their conference titles. It would be the sixth in the past seven years for the Tigers, while the Lady Hornets are seeking their sixth overall.
