The members of the 2011 MVSU outdoor track and field program participated in the 2011 Southern Miss Invitational held at the Marshall Bell Track and Field Complex in Hattiesburg on March 12.
In the women's 4 x 100 meter relay, the team of Shayla Burks, Janese Pryor, Kenia Lewis and Kellie Rollie finished third with a time of 49.20 while the squad of Rollie, Tambriya Barney, Queona Williams and Alicia Wimley finished sixth with a time of 50.32. In the women's 1,500 meter run, Joyce Chumo (4th-5:01.98), Winny Tauni (6th-5:09.50) and Irene Cherbuet (5:18.02) all finished in the top ten. In the men's 1,500-meter run, Robert Hernandez was fifth with a time of 4:14.40 while David Pulliam was ninth with a time of 4:29.65.
In the women's 400-meter dash, Queona Williams was seventh with a time of 1:00.04 while Angel Williams had a time of 1:00.60, tying her for tenth place. In the men's 400-meter, Quinton Weeks finished with a time of 49.79. Kenia Lewis (8th-12.81) and Shayla Burks (t-9th-12.85) finished in the top ten of the women's 100-meter dash. David White (9th-11.43) along with Demarcus Speight (10th-11.49) finished in the top ten of the men's 100-meter dash. In the women's 200-meter dash, Alicia Wimley ranked seventh (26.21) while Janese Pryor ranked eighth with a time of 26.25. Quinton Weeks was fourth in the men's race with a time of 22.18.
In the women's 5,000 meter run, Joyce Chumo was second with a time of 19:06.04 while Winny Tauni was fourth with a time of 20:01.96. In the men's race, Hezron Chepkwony won the event with a time of 16:17.74 while Victor Kiplagat was third with a time of 16:32.13.
