ITTA BENA, Mississippi -- The Mississippi Valley State Devilette softball team picked up a 9-1 home victory over the visiting Alabama State Lady Hornets Friday evening at MVSU's Softball Complex.
MVSU (20-19, 13-2 SWAC) jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning as doubles by Diana Parada, Taylor Pleasant and Ashley Hobbs got the team into favorable scoring positions. Alabama State (8-26, 4-8) would score a run in the top of the fourth inning. After a triple by Meagan Dixon, a fielding error with Ayesha Famble at the plate would score Dixon cutting the deficit to 9-1.
Throwing just 61 pitches (49 strikes) over five innings, MVSU pitcher Kim Spivey picked up her 12th win of the season. In the game, she struck out five batters, pushing her season total to 118 batters struck out.
