ITTA BENA, Mississippi -- The Mississippi Valley State Devilette softball team
fell to the visiting Mississippi State Bulldogs 5-1 in Tuesday afternoon action
at Itta Bena's MVSU Softball Field.
With the loss, MVSU fell to 19-19
while Mississippi State is now 21-21.
The Devilettes took the early lead
when Trenicia Cameron scored as Brianna Holmes was caught stealing in the bottom
of the third inning. Mississippi State rebounded with two runs in the third, a
run in the fourth and two more runs in the fifth.
Stephanie Becker got
the win in relief for MSU, pushing her record ot 6-3. MVSU's Kim Spivey (11-11)
worked seven innings, striking out seven and allow five walks and two earned
runs.
The Devilettes will now look to close out conference play with a
weekend series hosting Alabama State. The series opens with a Friday night game
set for 6 pm and closes with a Saturday doubleheader at 1 pm.
