Devilettes take two of three at Jackson State
JACKSON, Mississippi -- The Mississippi Valley State Devilette softball team took the series at Jackson State, winning two of three contests this weekend.
After falling 4-3 on Friday evening, the Devilettes won 3-0 and 4-1 on Saturday to take the series.
Friday night in game one, down 2-0 entering the sixth inning, the Devilettes got RBI singles from Brianna Holmes and Alex Robertson to cap a three-run inning. However, the Lady Tigers scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on two singles and three consecutive walks.
In game one of the doubleheader on Saturday, MVSU got two runs on a RBI-double by Rachelle Harris and Trenicia Cameron drove in a run as the Devilettes blanked JSU 3-0.
In game two, MVSU scored a run in each of the second, third, fifth and sixth inning to take a 4-1 victory.
On the weekend, MVSU outscored JSU 10-5 and out-hit the Lady Tigers 21-18. Kim Spivey pitched both games Saturday, going 2-0 allowing eight hits, one run and two walks while striking out nine batters. Spivey threw over 200 pitches during the Saturday doubleheader.
