Four Delta Devils scored in double-figures Monday night to keep
Mississippi Valley State undefeated in conference play following a 77-69
overtime win over Texas Southern.
MVSU (8-11, 7-0 SWAC) haven't lost this calendar year. They outscored
the Tigers 14-6 in the overtime period to secure the win in a game that
included eight lead changes.
TSU shook off a seven-point deficit with two minutes remaining in
regulation and sent the game into an extra period following a Madarious
Gibbs layup as the final seconds drifted off the clock.
The overtime period, however, belonged to the Delta Devils. Terrence
Joyner nailed a three-pointer while Kevin Burwell, Paul Crosby and
Brent Arrington made some key free throws to keep Valley at the top of
the SWAC standings.
Joyner led Valley with 18 points while Brent Arrington chipped in 17.
Paul Crosby had a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
The Delta Devils will host Jackson State on Saturday for a 4:30 p.m. tipoff. The women are set for 2 p.m.
