GRAMBLING, La. — It was another close game for Mississippi Valley State.
But unfortunately for the Delta Devils, it was another loss, as Grambling State used a 7-yard touchdown pass in overtime to beat MVSU.
Mario Louis caught a 7-yard pass from D.J. Williams to keep MVSU (0-8, 0-7 Southwestern Athletic Conference) winless.
The Delta Devils used a bruising ground game to keep the Tigers (3-4, 2-3 SWAC) on their toes. Trey Bateaste rushed for 128 yards and a TD on 15 carries while reserve quarterback Marvin Pittman added 127 yards and a score. Torian Nickleberry chipped in 54 yards.
The Delta Devils were down 24-7 in the third quarter before Bateaste's 5-yard TD run gave MVSU hope to cut the score to 24-14. A 43-yard field by Carlos Sanchez made it 24-17 with 3:09 left in the third quarter.
MVSU quarterback Garrick Jones capped off their comeback late in the fourth quarter with a 3-yard TD run to send the game into overtime.
But that would be as close as the Delta Devils would get as Grambling walked away with the victory.
Valley finished with 412 total yards, including 315 on the ground.
MVSU's next shot at their first win since Nov. 2009 will come this Saturday when they entertain Texas Southern for homecoming.
