Registration Procedures

Academic Advisement and Online Registration

Steps to Guide the On-Line Registration Process:

  • Receive Academic Advisement - Students will receive academic advisement and their alternate PIN from their academic advisors. The alternate PIN will be used for registration only. Students will continue to use their primary PIN for accessing their accounts and, etc.
  • Complete a "Proposed Class Scehdule" with the academic advisor's assistance.
  • Access the Internet and navigate to http://sutton2.mvsu.edu or to www.mvsu.edu and click on Banner.
  • Enter the secure area.
  • Enter your User's ID and Primary PIN to enter the course registration area, proceed with the regular registration steps until you reach the screen that includes the DROP/ADD Courses option. Click on DROP/ADD Courses and then you will be prompted for your ALTERNATE PIN.

The Alternate PIN is only being used for registration. You may obtain your PIN from your academic advisor. Your regular PIN is still valid and can be used for all other Sutton 2 activities.

COMPLETING ON-LINE REGISTRATION OFFICIALLY ENROLLS STUDENTS INTO SELECTED CLASSES. STUDENTS WHO DECIDE NOT TO ATTEND MUST OFFICIALLY WITHDRAW FROM THE UNIVERSITY.

Walk-Through (Arena) - Registration for the Fall Semester is held in the R. W. Harrison HPER Complex and it is held in the Charles L. Lackey Recreational Complex for Spring Semester Registrations.

Step 1: Certificate of Admissions for New Students Only - All new students must have in their possession a Certificate of Admissions showing full admission to the University (No documents pending). You are to report to the Admissions Station if you have not received a Certificate of Admissions.

Step 2: Academic Advisement and Course Selection - Academic advisement will be offered for continuing students and transfer students who have earned more than 30 semester hours at the students academic departmental area as listed below:

All new students (freshmen, transfers with fewer than 30 hours) will be academically advised at Table N – University College. Students must review their Proposed Class Schedule after the course selections have been made.

Note: Holds and Registration Flags – All registration holds must be cleared before courses are entered. Holds and flags must be cleared at the following locations:

Step 3: Course Entry to the System - he approved Proposed Class Schedule will be used for course-entry. For all new students, who are academically advised through University College, their advisors will assist with courses. Course-entry is available to students on Stage - Student Records area. Students may also enter courses from their department computer laboratories, campus library, and any remote computer with Internet service once they have been academically advised. The web address for students to use is http://sutton2.mvsu.edu. Students who find it difficult to register on-line due to course pre-requisites, course restrictions, or other reasons, may report to the Office of Student Records Area – Located on Stage – with their approved override(s). Students requesting an override(s) must complete the Course Override Authorization Form. This form must bear all required signatures before it is processed by the Office of Student Records.

Step 4: Financial Assistance - Assistance for students who have not received financial aid and need financial aid will be offered at Table Q – Office of Financial Aid. In order to apply for federal aid, a copy of the parent’s or the student’s (if applicable) 2006 federal tax form (1040, 1040EZ, or 1040A) is required. All first-time student loan borrowers are required to complete loan counseling on-line in order for their loan(s) to be certified. Counseling is required when students apply for student loans.

The Entrance/Exit Loan Counseling Procedures:

  • Go to: www.mvsu.edu
  • Click on: Admission
    • Office of Student Financial Aid
    • See the On-line Counseling Center
    • Entrance Counseling (freshmen/first-time borrowers)
    • Exit Counseling (withdrawing, transfer and/or graduating students)
    • Print the confirmation number (please provide evidence of the confirmation number that you receive to the Office of Student Financial Aid).

Step 5: Housing – Residential Life - All students who are planning to live on-campus must be accepted into the University and meet the criteria set forth by the Office of Residential Life. All new freshmen are required to live on campus. A station for housing assignments is located at Table T – Student Affairs/Residential Life.

Step 6: Payment– By the first day of class, payment must be made for all courses for which you have registered. If payment has not been made by this date, courses will be purged from the system by 5:00 p.m. on that date. Students who wish to have courses reentered must repeat the applicable steps. Students are not allowed to use unearned work-study or work-aid funds to settle registration fees.Payment and financial clearance is set up at Table O – Business Office (Assessment and Financial Clearance). This step is for students who are not eligible for financial aid; or who have not been awarded financial aid; or who will have to pay or make payment arrangements.

Step 7: Identification Cards – Identification cards are issued after showing receipt of payment of all fees. Students may receive identification cards at designated Police Station Area. Note: To obtain an Identification Card Students must have a printed schedule signed by Student Records Personnel and Fiscal Affairs Personnel.

Step 8: Books and Supplies– Students who are awarded federal financial aid (excluding Federal Work Study and Parent Plus Loans) may request a bookstore charge (not to exceed $1,000.00 for each semester ($500.00 for each summer term) if the amount awarded is greater than tuition and on-campus charges. To validate your I.D. Card for bookstore charges, report to the R. W. Harrison Recreation Center (Charles Lackey Recreation Center (Spring Registrations), Location P – Business Office (Bookstore Charges).
