Introduction

The computer laboratory is a component of the University College. In this component we use our technology to help motivate and stimulate students, making them active participants in their own education. We believe our mission is to serve students, staff, educators and administrators to enhance scholarship and the overall experience.

Location and Hours of Operation

The computer laboratory of the University College is located in the Technical Education Building. The lab is open for use from 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The lab will close at the end of the work day prior to a University holiday/break and open at 8:00 am. the first work day after holiday. Occasionally, the lab will close for required meetings and maintenance of equipment. Signs will be posted.

Security

An area of particular concern to the laboratory personnel is security. It is very important that we protect our information system from the threat of unauthorized access, fraud, fire and viruses. Although each of these areas are vitally important , viruses pose the biggest threat to our system at this time.

Computer viruses can replicate themselves and spread sometimes without indicating that they exist. They can produce such simple symptoms from obvious changes to your files, to damaging or destroying your files and or hard disk.

We try to protect our computers from viruses by providing guaranteed virus-free preformatted disks.

Copying Software

The computer lab staff will not copy, dissemble, change or modify software in according with the United States Copyright Law and International Treaty provisions.

Students will not be allowed or encouraged to copy system software or application programs.

Technical Support

Technical support/service is provided to individuals and on the departmental level in the form of training and database management. This training may be accomplished via in-house training sessions, seminars and workshops.

Requests may be made through the Director of the University College.

The computer laboratory is designed for those individuals who wish to do a variety of assignments and projects as a part of a regular course of study. The university provides areas for eating, drinking and smoking. Under no circumstances will drinking, smoking eating, loitering, and or loud music be tolerated in the laboratory.
