Admissions
Regular Admission: Minimum standards for regular admission:
- The applicant must hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.
- The applicant must be eligible to re-enter in good standing at the last college or university attended.
- The applicant must provide evidence, by official transcript, of a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 on all undergraduate study, or a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on the last 60 hours of study. GPA is based on a 4.0 scale.
- The applicant must have taken the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or the Miller Analogies Test. These scores will be used in combination with other academic criteria.
- The applicant must submit three references from persons familiar with the applicant’s fitness for graduate school and character.
- The applicant must submit a three-page typed essay on why she/he would like to be a social worker. The applicant’s response should reflect important family and community influences, as well as a description of characteristics that distinguish her/him as a potential candidate for the MSW degree.
- The applicant must complete application for admission.
- An interview with the Admissions Committee may be required.
Conditional Admission: Conditional admission may be granted to applicants who do not meet the GPA requirements for admission, or possess an unacceptable GRE test score. Such conditional status may be removed if the student maintains a GPA of 3.0 or better in the first graduate hours completed.
Advanced Standing Admission: Admission to advanced standing is determined on a selective basis according to the following criteria:
- Applicant must be a graduate of a CSWE accredited baccalaureate program within the past five years.
- A letter grade of “B” or better in all social work courses.
- A cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for undergraduate coursework.
- An interview with the Admissions Committee may be required.
Advanced Standing students must complete thirty semester hours in social work. This includes the following:
- SW540 Diversity: Micro, Mezzo and Macro Perspectives
- Eighteen hours of concentration course work (Child and Family Welfare)
- Six hours of advanced field internship (450 hours in an agency placement)
- Three hours of advanced field seminar
