Biography
I joined the MVSU business department as an Assistant Professor of Management in August 2012. My teaching philosophy can be summed up in one sentence: “It is the duty of a true teacher to teach students how to think intelligently about the subject material they are being taught”. My approach to instruction is synergistic and motivational that encompasses a combination of theory and real world practical application of business and management principles. In my capacity as assistant professor of management, my research interests include organizational effectiveness, trust, leadership, organizational leadership, organizational theory and design, and globalization. I have a multidisciplinary background in the hard and soft sciences from astronomy/physics/math and electronics engineering, various areas of biology (genetics, molecular, fish physiology), management theory and practice and outreach and motivational activities in adult education. This includes having worked with the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service for almost 14 years in catfish genetics research and in various administrative and management capacities. I have also worked as an electronics technician for 7 years in astronomical instrumentation for the University of Arizona’s Steward Observatory where I also received my undergraduate degree in astronomy. My work with USDA has resulted in numerous awards and presentations at scientific meetings, in addition to administrative/management details. I have also conducted motivational speaking sessions and I bring this approach to my teaching and to my instruction in the classroom. With presentations and publications in multiple disciplines (biological sciences and business/management) and with other publications and presentations that are in preparation, I believe that my synergistic and multidisciplinary background of hard and soft science and administrative experiences gives me a unique perspective on preparing traditional and non-traditional students to create and develop an individual and personal sustainable competitive advantage for an ever changing and dynamic work and entrepreneurial environment.
