College of Professional Studies
The College of Professional Studies is one of the five colleges within the University and is organized into five degree granting academic departments. In addition, the College houses the Army Reserve Officers Training Corp (Army ROTC). This program offers students the opportunity to attain a commission and serve on active duty in the U. S. Armed Forces.
The five departments within the College are:
Department of Applied Technology & Technology Managment
Department of Business Administration
Department of Communication
Department of Criminal Justice
Department of Social Work
The goals and objectives of these departments are to prepare students to combine their broad and well-rounded general education with specialized training in a way that when the prescribed curriculum is completed, they will be ready to enter into their respective careers and/or into graduate school to further ther formal education.
Some of the profound trends brought about in the last two decades are the increasing intensity of global competitions, rapidly changing markets and unparalled technological innovation. In order to stay competitive in the global market, one must understand and cope with dynamic and complex issues. As a state-supported institution, Mississippi Valley State University is responding to these contemporary societal needs by providing professional degree programs and experiences that will prepare the graduates to take on these societal responsibilities.
