Dr. Richard Mushi is Associate Professor and serves as coordinator of the Master of Arts in Rural Public Policy and Planning Program in the Social Science Department at Mississippi Valley State University. Dr. Mushi received his Ph.D. and MPPA degrees from Jackson State University, Mississippi and a B.A. in Public Administration and International Relations from the University of Dar-Es-Salaam in Tanzania. His teaching areas include research methods for public policy and statistical analysis, public administration, financial management in public organizations, public policy analysis and economic analysis of state and local governments. Before joining MVSU, Dr. Mushi was Program Training Manager for the Mississippi Center for Technology Transfer and Adjunct Professor in the School of Policy and Planning at Jackson State University. Dr. Mushi’s program of research includes public health disparities research in obesity, HIV/AIDS, Chlamydia and Gonorrhea, emergence evacuations, privatization, economic growth and human development. He has conducted research and authored a book and several refereed and non-refereed journal articles and monographs on the topics of disparities in healthcare, privatization, economic growth and human development. As principal investigator or co-investigator, he has written, obtained funding and managed research grants on Chlamydia and Gonorrhea.
