Professor of Political Science Solomon Terfa

Dr. Solomon Terfa is a Professor of Political Science and International Relations. He earned his BA in Political Science from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1973, his MA and PHD in Political Science and International Relations from Atlanta University in 1975 and 1985 respectively. Before joining the Mississippi Valley State University in August 2004, Dr. Terfa had also taught at Alcorn State University from 1994-2004 and at the Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia, his country of birth from 1989 to 1993 where he had the privilege and opportunity of serving the Department of Political Science and International Relations as its Chairman from 1990 to 1993. Dr. Terfa had written and published many articles on Ethiopian national politics and Middle Eastern Politics. He is a recipient of Mississippi Humanities Award 2006 and was also mentioned in Who’s Who among America’s Teachers in 2000. Dr. Terfa had also served as Second Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, 1979-1981, and as Senior Expert in the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations of Ethiopia 1987-1989. During his services in these two institutions, he had the opportunity of representing Ethiopia in many bilateral and multilateral meetings that included the 1979 UN General Assembly and various Non Aligned Movement Conferences. Dr. Terfa is a member of American Political Science Association; Mississippi Political Science Association; National Conference of Black Political Scientists; Amnesty International USA; Human Rights Watch; American Civil Liberties Union; National Association for the Advancement of Colored People; and Southern Poverty Law Center.
