HI 105 EARLY WESTERN CIVILIZATION. Political, cultural, social and economic development, primarily of Europe and America, from prehistoric times until 1648. 3

HI 106 LATE WESTERN CIVILIZATION. Continuation of HI 105 to the present. 3

HI 201 EARLY AMERICAN HISTORY. Political, cultural, social and economic development, primarily of European-American history, from the Age of Discovery until 1877. 3

HI 202 MODERN AMERICAN HISTORY. Continuation of HI 201 to present. 3

HI 301 HISTORY OF ENGLAND, GREAT BRITAIN AND THE BRITISH

EMPIRE. Political, social and cultural history of England from Roman time through its rise to become colonial master of a world-wide empire in Africa, Asia, Australia, and North America. Special emphasis is given to Britain’s impact on the people of Asia and Africa. Prerequisites: HI 105 and HI 106. 3

HI 309 AMERICAN DIPLOMATIC HISTORY. The evolution of U.S. foreign policy since the American Revolution. Prerequisites: HI 201 and HI 202. 3

HI 315 AFRICAN-AMERICAN HISTORY. Political, cultural, social, and economic development of African-American history from the Age of Discovery to present. 3

HI 320 TWENTIETH-CENTURY AMERICA. Major developments in American history from the Populist and Progressive Eras to the present. Prerequisites: HI 201 and HI 202. 3

HI 330 COLONIAL AMERICA. Major developments in America history from the Age of Discovery to 1783. Prerequisites: HI 201 and HI 202. 3

HI 331 HISTORY OF THE SOUTH. Political, cultural and economic history of the South since the founding of Virginia. Prerequisites: HI 201 and HI 202. 3

HI 350 SLAVERY AND FREEDOM. The causes and consequences of the Civil War. Slavery, sectionalism, the Civil War, Reconstruction and Redemption. Prerequisites: HI 201 and HI 202. 3

HI 361 AMERICAN CONSTITUTIONAL HISTORY. The development of American constitutional principles and practices, focusing on federalism, the separation of powers, the Bill of Rights. Prerequisites: HI 201, HI 202 and PS 201.

HI 389. LATIN AMERICAN/ CARIBBEAN HISTORY. This course provides a social and cultural survey from the Colonial period to Independence. It also examines the Early National period. Prerequisites HI 201 and 202. 3

HI 422 AMERICAN MILTARY HISTORY. The development of the armed forces of the Unites States from 1607 to the present (Same as MS 422). 3

HI 432 HISTORY OF MISSISSPPI. The political, economic, and cultural development of the state from 1540 to the present, Prerequisites: HI 201 and HI 202. 3

HI 490 HISTORY RESEARCH SEMINAR. This is a Reading and Writing Seminar. The course will cover various topics in American History. Students are required to do a research paper for their finals. Prerequisites: HI 105, 106, 201 and 202. 3
