SHEC Program
MVSU, through its Environmental Health Program and Department of Continuing Education, have developed a Safe Homes and Environment for Children (SHEC) Program. This program will provide credit and non-credit (CEUs) training for teachers and other childcare provides in the Mississippi Delta. The training will be provided through an online course that focuses on environmental hazards that directly impact the well being of children. The SHEC Program will also provide non-credit environmental workshops for educators and childcare providers in the Delta area (Workshop Application).
Safe Home and Environments for Children
Toxins in the environment effect children more than adults because children eat more food, drink more water, and breathe more air in proportion to their body size. The provided web resources contain detailed information and solutions for you and your family. This site will cover issues surrounding lead poisoning, lead toxicology, signs, symptoms, and effects of lead poisoning on children and adults, chronic exposure, and preventions. Much of the information comes from the Mississippi Department of Health (MSDH), American Lung Association (ALA), Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other national resources.
