DescriptionWelcome to the Department of English and Foreign Languages.
The Department of English and Foreign Languages offers a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and a Bachelor of Science Degree in English Education.
The purpose of the Department of English and Foreign Languages is multi-faceted because of its different programs. The Department's general education courses are designed to develop critical thinking and writing skills and also to acquaint students with the aesthetic and cultural values inherent in literature.
The English major program teaches the traditional canon of English and American literature and languages (1) as a body of knowledge to be mastered, (2) as a means of reinforcing literature's aesthetic and cultural values, and (3) as a means of refining thinking, writing, and researching skills. The program has expanded its literacy offerings beyond the conservative, traditional spectrum to include multi-cultural literature.
